About Chandragiri
Seven Kilometers from Thankot, Kathmandu and on the south-west of Kathmandu Valley there lies a beautiful tourist destination Chandragiri which is 2551 meters above the sea level. History
Chandragiri is one of the 4 passes of Kathmandu Valley. Before the built of Tribhuvan Highway, travelers used to use the Chandragiri Pass to visit Kathmandu. The route passing through Kulekhani, Chitlang, Chandragiri Pass and Thankot was used as the Historical Trade Route of Kathmandu.
Bhaleshwor Mahadev — Mythological Significance
Lord Shiva Temple is also located on the top of the hill. The temple is called Bhaleshwor Mahadev Mandir. It is believed that pilgrimage who come to the hilltop to worship Lord Shiva in order to secure a ticket to the Shivaloka in the afterlife and also believed to get their wish fulfilled. People say that king Prithivi Narayan Shah worshipped in this Temple before attacking Kathmandu valley during his unification campaign.
Cable Car
The shortest mean to reach Chadragiri hills' top is cable car. The cable car is 2.5 kilometers long which ensures a smooth and a safe journey. It also provides you a beautiful view of Kathmandu valley and nature along with the fun in it. It just takes 9 minutes to reach the top of the hills. You can get the ticket of the cable car at the bottom of the hill in the place called Godam in Chandragiri municipality. Each cabin can accommodate 8 passengers. A Ticket is required for a child above 3 feet in height.
Drive: The top of the hill is about 11 kilometer from the bottom through off-road.
Hiking: If you are planning to visit Chandragiri top by Hiking then you can start it from the place called Godam. It will just take 3 to 3 and a half hour to get to the top of the hill. It will provide you a means of adventure to you and enjoy the natural beauty from very close.

The view Tower which is located at the height of 2547 meters above the sea level provides you an undisturbed 360-degree view of the nearby area and a 180-degree view of the majestic Himalayas ranges from Mt. Everest in the east to the Mt. Annapurna in the west. The view tower is installed with a long-range telescope which helps you to explore peaks of each mountain. You need to buy a ticket in order to get to the view tower. It is not so expensive to get a ticket. It costs just less than 100 rupees for each visitors. I suggest you to get to the top of the tower because it is an awesome place to explore the natural beauty and to see the optimum view of Mountains just in-front of your eyes. You will get more than what you pay.
3. Children's Playground
Chandragiri is not only designed for the adults one but also for their young ones. Every age group can enjoy this place in their own way. For you young one there is a children's playground where they can enjoy their time without disturbing you in seeing a natural beauty and exploring the things in Chandragiri. The playground is very well managed and equipped with the advanced and new design of playing tools. So this place can be a great place to visit with your young ones.

How to get to Chandragiri?
If you are in Kathmandu Valley and you are planning to visit Chandragiri then you can easily visit there within a half hour from old bus park (from old bus park to Chandragiri entrance). You can get a direct micro van from old bus park to Godam, Kathmandu. Or if you don't get any vehicle to Godam than you can get another van to Thankot, Kathmandu. You can ask the conductor of the van to drop you to the road of Godam from where you need to walk for 20 to 30 minutes.
In Godam where you drop from the van, you can easily see the entrance of Chandragiri (entrance of Chandragiri Cable Car). If not then you can ask any local people over there about Chandragiri Entrance gate for the cable car.

Hiking to Chitlang from Chandragiri
If you are planning to visit Chitlang, another tourist destination nearby Kathmandu from Chandragiri hills through hiking then you can easily do it from there. It will just take about 2 to 2 and a half hour to visit Chitlang on your foot. You can ask the people in Chandragiri about how to hike to Chitlang and they will show you the hiking path to visit Chitlang. Just follow the path and enjoy the natural beauty and have some adventure and then finally you are in Chitlang.

Note: if you want to hike to Chitlang then you need to visit Chandragiri before 12 O'clock noon then enjoy Chandragiri and finally start your hike for chitlang before 2 O'clock noon so that you can visit Chitlang before getting dark. Don't plan to return from Chitlang within the same day. Stay there at night enjoy Chitlang on next day and then return to Chandragiri or you can visit Markhu from Chitlang by hiking. It will just about 3 hours.
