Things To Do in Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is Nepal's most popular tourist destination. We can get to Chitwan in about 4-6 hours by bus from Kathmandu or Pokhara. And if you are planning to visit through airlines. Then there is nearest airpot located in Bharatpur 10 kilometers away. Sauraha and Meghauli village are two main entrances of Chitwan National Park. Both Sauhara and Meghauli village have large selection of accommodation, tour agencies and restaurants to welcome the visitors. You can stop there before you visit Chitwan National Park. Things to do in Chitwan National Park are listed below:

Jungle Walk/Trekking

Jungle walk is the main attraction for adventure lover and nature admirer. You can take half day, full day or two / three days of jungle walk. Jungle walk is much admired by tourist because they have chance of encountering the animals and birds in a very closure way. Day time jungle walk provides higher chance of seeing rhinos 🦏, birds, deer (sambar deer, red muntjac, hog deer), boar, and other wildlife. And overnight jungle walk that goes deeper in the jungle have chance of seeing a tiger. And you can even track the footprint of various animals and birds.

Jeep Safari

Jeep safari is one of the famous thing to do in Chitwan National Park. Jeep safari are suitable for those wanting to go deep in the jungle quickly. Jeep safari even covers larger area to visit and see the wildlife. Jeep safari are generally included in day excursions.

Elephant Ride Jungle Safari

Elephant riding is also one of the famous attraction of Chitwan National Park. Elephant ride can be done in three different time:early morning, mid morning and late afternoon. All the lodges and travel agencies offer elephant ride jungle safari. Elephant ride is the best way to see one-horned rhinos in the park.

Elephant Breeding Center

Elephant breeding center is located in Sauraha. It was established to protect the endangered elephants in the region. You can get to see elephant babies and there is small museum as well. You can walk to the breeding center or you can take rickshaw or tour transport. If you walk to the center, it is 1 hour away considering the heat and conditions. It opens from 6 am to 6 pm.

Gharial Crocodile Breeding Center

Gharial Crocodile Breeding Center was established to protect the endangered gharial crocodile. You can get to see the gharial babies and gharial of different ages. There is small museum as well. And there is breeding center for endangered spotted eagle.

Elephant Washing

In the summer time, elephant washing is the most famous attraction in the Rapti river. You can get tickets to wash elephant from travel agencies and lodges or guesthouses. You can even get to see the tricks while the Mahout (elephant riders) wash elephant after the day work. You can enjoy the sunset over the Rapti river.

Boating

Rapti river flows in the Chitwan National Park. All the travel agencies and lodges provide the boating facilities. River dolphins are rarely seen. You can see many gharial crocodiles and birds along the Rapti river.

Best Way to Spot a Tiger in Chitwan

Spotting Royal Bengal Tiger is one of the diificult thing to do in Chitwan National Park. Local people believe if you are lucky and blessed with fortune then you will get a chance to see a tiger. Generally, deep jungle trek is the best way to see or spot the Royal Bengal Tiger. And the jungle trek is often done by tracking the footprints and the waste. But it is never guaranteed that you will get to see Royal Begal Tiger in Chitwan National Park

Danger in Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is protected but a tropical jungle where the wildlife are active. The endangered animals and birds dwell in their natural habitat. Rhinos, sloth bears, elephants, tigers, leopard, snakes, and crocodiles are considered as top dangerous animals. You can be less excited about the park but you must be more careful, act rational and always stay in the group while you are in Chitwan National Park.
