History Of Chitwan National Park

The first national park established in Nepal was Chitwan National Park in 1973. It was recognized as World Heritage Site in 1984. It has 932 km2 area. It is located in Inner Terai Nepal. It is located in the districts of Nawalparasi, Parsa, Chitwan and Makwanpur. Chitwan National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Two main entrances to Chitwan National Park are Sauraha and Meghauli Village.

Over three decades, Chitwan National Park have collected numerous experiences in nature conversation. With its unique biological resources, it has been welcoming thousands of nature lovers and admirer in the lap of mother nature.

Species found in Chitwan National Park

There are 68 species of mammals , 56 species of herpeto fauna and 126 species of fish in the park. The park is famous for protection of One Horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger and Gharial Crocodile.

Elephants and Mahout
The park not only has the world’s largest terrestrial mammal i.e elephants but also the world’s smallest terrestrial mammal i.e,pygmy shrew. For the conversation of largest terrestrial mammal (elephants) there is elephant breeding center. Mammals like leopard, sloth bears, wild dogs, bengal foxes, spotted linsangs , honey badgers, golden jackals, fishing cats, jungle cats, leopard cats, large and small Indian civets, Asian palm civets, crab-eating mongooses and yellow-throated martens, gaurs, wild boars , sambar deer, red muntjac, hog deer and many more.

There are 544 species of birds. There are 22 globally threatened species like endangered Bengal Florican, Slender-billed Vulture, White-rumped Vulture and Red-headed Vulture. There is breeding center for spotted eagle which are globally threatened. The cuckoos welcomes the spring. As moonson starts, colourful Bengal pittas and several sunbird species visits for breeding. Greater spotted eagle, eastern imperial eagle, Pallas's fish-eagle, paradise flycatcher , peafowl, jungle fowl, bitterns, storks , kingfishers and many more birds can be seen in Chitwan National Park.
